This month I found myself soul searching.
I guess that I should preface that statement. It wasn’t that kind of desperate and lost kind of soul searching. I’m just one of those people who’s constantly thinking – and probably too much for my own good! With a tiny break in my wedding schedule this summer, I found myself naturally thinking a lot about my business. It’s officially July, which means we’re (somehow!) already halfway through the year. While I thought about how that was even possible, I found myself wondering how I wanted to invest in myself and my business for the second half of the year.
One of the problems I was facing was that I think too much. I have so many ideas of what I want to do in my life and my business, yet I never know which to prioritize or how exactly to put them all in action. Goals can be overwhelming and make life busier if they aren’t connected to what matters. I wanted to set goals, but I didn’t want yet just another new to-do list for my life. Please, oh, please tell me I’m not the only one who goes through that.
I’m a sucker for planners.
I’ve actually always been a sucker for stationary and office supplies. I’m actually pretty notorious for dropping about $100 plus every year on an Erin Condren or Plum Paper planner and all the accessories that go along with them. However, while they help me plan out my days, that’s about all they do.
I was introduced to Lara Casey and the Cultivate What Matters company on Instagram (like everything else, it seems!) While I was hesitant to order at first, I soon found that their Powersheets were unlike any planner. Through the prep work and tending lists, they were designed to help you cultivate what truly matters most, little by little, with some big leaps along the way. The best part? No perfection is required from even the biggest perfectionist. (aka. ME)
Let’s do this together.
Lucky for you, I’m going to take you along parts of my 6-month journey with my Powersheets, sharing different pieces of my prep-work and tending lists each month. I can only hope to inspire you into cultivating what matters in your own life in the months to come!
6-Month Powersheets Prep
I ended up ordering my Powersheets at the end of May after Lara Casey and Jess were doing a series of Facebook Lives about starting the 6-month prep for the July start. With them selling out just a couple weeks later, I’m definitely glad I ordered them when I did! Although I got them in the mail right before we left for our anniversary trip to Utah, I didn’t start them right away. Like with any new pretty paper and planner, I found myself almost afraid of ‘messing up’ on the perfect, crisp pages. I found there’s also something intimidating about writing your goals down on paper. I mean, this was my goal planning journal after all.
It needed to be perfect, right? Well, so I thought.
Despite being sore from hiking, I came back from our anniversary trip feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. It was really the perfect time to take a step back and start with a fresh mind. I decided to take the rest of the month of June to complete the prep work, little by little, over my morning coffee.
I’m not going to lie to you. I found myself getting extremely vulnerable and honest with myself over morning coffee sessions with a snoring dog at my feet. I got extra real with myself about what I wanted, what my fears were, and how I’ve really felt over the past year. Through my prep work, I found out the things that I really wanted to cultivate in my life over the next 6 months. Although a lot of them are personal, I feel that they still influence my business. I mean, you can’t pour from an empty cup, right?
As a perfectionist who is also extremely Type A, I can notoriously be hard on myself. For my Powersheets, I decided to continue my word for the year from January. (You can read that blog post, here.)
I knew going into this process that it was just that, a process. I didn’t want to shame myself over checking off boxes on my tending list or not succeeding in all my goals for the month. Rather, what’s important is the progress over the perfection. It’s about bettering myself for myself and my little family. It’s about cultivating what matters.
A Health Journey
One of my biggest goals for the next 6 months is to start living a healthier lifestyle. While a lot of my action steps are food-related, it’s really much more than just that. It’s about also growing in my faith, loving my husband well, cultivating more joy, running a more heartfelt business, and cultivating more intentional friendships. Regardless, I found these goals all to be the first steps on a lifetime journey of cleaner living and loving myself well.
Side note, as you can see, I’m also crazy enough to have signed up for a half marathon at the beginning of December! While I sometimes regret my decision as I lace up my running shoes, I’m actually mostly excited. (Have I lost my mind already?!) However, it’s already forced me to act on those two health goals even before July began. I’ve also planned my whole running wardrobe off cute tanks from etsy. Priorities.
In all seriousness, I hate running, so I’m accepting prayers for my survival now.
I’ve decided that July is about taking the first step.
I think one of the things that I really love about all my goals is that they all influence one another in some way, shape, or form. As I was creating my action plans, I found that they all played a part with creating a healthier, happier me. Rather than overwhelming myself with just another to-do list, I decided to dedicate this month to just starting and embracing the process.
P.S. If you’re reading this, you may see some goals or items on my tending list this month that I’ve hinted about being a surprise on Instagram Stories. Let’s keep it our little secret 😉
Who’s with me?
If you’re starting Powersheets this month, share your goals with me in the comments! Let’s grab a virtual cup of coffee (or four) and do this together!
